Cranberry Apple Pie

(From Joan All Night Coffee House)

This is a nice pie for the holiday combining two traditional holiday fruits.

1 9 inch unbaked deep dish pie shell

4 tart apples

1 -12 oz. bag of cranberries

1 cup sugar

1 cup sugar

1/3 cup flour

¾ cup packed brown sugar

1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour

¾ cups of butter plus 2 tablespoons

Peel and core the apples then cut into thin slices. Put the apples aside in a bowl. Combine

1 cup of water and sugar with cranberries in saucepan over medium heat. Cook the

cranberries for approximately 10 to 15 minutes until the berries burst and water is red. Strain the berries

through a sieve to remove water and mix with the sliced apples. Mix 1 cup of sugar and 1/3

cups of flour then add to fruit mixture. Stir ingredients in fruit mixture well. Spoon the fruit mixture into pie shell evenly. Combine the brown sugar, all purpose flour and cut in the butter with pastry blender until mixture is crumbly. Top the pie with the crumb mixture evenly . Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Bake the pies 30-40 minutes until crust is golden brown and fruit is warm and bubbly. Cool on wire rack. Serve with whipped cream. Makes 8 servings
